The Story Behind This Biblical Christian Baby Name
There is one very brief mention of this name in the book of
Nehemiah. A man named Jadon from a place called Merenoth helped to
rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem.
The city of Jerusalem was the holy city to the Jewish people, and this
was a big deal, repairing the defenses and
revitalizing this place central to the sacrificial system and holy
celebrations of their religious beliefs and political identity as a
nation.
Although Nehemiah gets a lot of the fame for this rebuilding of
the walls of Jerusalem, there were many people who were a part of this
grand and dangerous project.
They faced much opposition, and the violence threatened against them
was enough that half of them would stand guard with weapons at the
ready while the other half did the building work. Even the construction
workers kept a sword in their belts at all times, just in case.
Every person involved in this construction effort is a hero, including Jadon the Merenothite.

Aspects of the topic Eastern-Townships are discussed in the following places at Britannica.
The Appalachian region was first inhabited by Abenaki people.
The
southeastern corner of the province that includes the towns of Granby,
Sherbrooke, and Magog is known as the Eastern Townships,
which were originally settled by loyalists seeking asylum during the
American Revolution in what remained British territory.
Settlement of the Eastern Townships was by freehold tenure, and this
attracted considerable numbers of British settlers following the end of
the War of 1812.
Throughout the latter half of the 19th century, a great many American
and British settlers sold out to French Canadian habitants,
who received encouragement and financial support from French Canadian
Catholic colonization societies.

Shield: Beveled Smooth shield Shields: There is some debate as to the meaning of the shape of the shield. Most historians agree that the shape was usually determined by the time period and geographic region. The shape is not a part of the official blazon, so modern heraldry artists choose shapes to suit the design. Some of the most commonly used designs are shown here. http://www.fleurdelis.com/shields.htm |

Marie Louise Demers AKA (Eliza Jordon) Birth abt 1788 in Chambly (St-Joseph) Quebec Canada Death 1 Jun 1791 in 1654589, 1654466, Quebec, Canada Anthony's Marriage Record Below is proof that Eliza can be a nickname for Louise. Search the page faster for the name Louise. To make the search faster Click ctrl & then hit the key letter "F" then add the name Eliza in your search box. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cramsey/nickname.html Louise Loretta--Etta, Lorrie, Retta Lorraine--Lorrie Louise/Louisa--Lou, Eliza, Lois Lucille--Lu, Lou, Cille, Lucy Lucinda--Cindy, Lu, Lou, Lucy Luella--Ella, Lu, Lula Lydia/Lidia--Lyddy. This site proves this too... http://www.genealogytoday.com/genealogy/enoch/nicknames.html Louise Eliza, Eloise, Lois, Lou, Lulu - (m) Louis. This site says the same thing... http://www.tngenweb.org/franklin/frannick.htm Eliza, Eloise, Issie, Lois, Lou, Lulu - (m) Louis. So after much research it seems very clear that Eliza is certainly Louise. It's also worth pointing out that the French often times had 4 or 5 names 2 sometimes three given names, nick names, and with dit names & surnames can be another 2 or 3 names. Louise aka Maire Louise aka (Eliza) is seen in the birth records of Mary Julie, & Louise, it is in Mary's death record states her maiden name has being Jordon, however it has her parents last name wrong, it is listed as Jarvis which is Mary's married name. It says her parents are Anthony & Elizabeth short for Eliza. Rather the full name of Eliza was somehow a mistake or not is of no great consequence, as it proves it is the same lady that was at her birth. which is listed in her birth record. These sources clearly show how the name Eliza can be a nickname for Louise. As far as Louise AKA Eliza's last name it seems very clear that she dropped her last name Demers, and was Americanized by taking on her husbands surname Jordon, which helped them blend in better. French woman kept their maiden name, as it was a custom. |

Anthony Jr. Jordon Born 1814 in Chambly, Quebec Most records claim Anthony Jr was born in Vermont, however his birth record that we found in Quebec that has him linked with his parents, and other siblings clearly shows that this generation wanted to sever their ties to Canada. His last name is recorded as "Dyadon" Again Yadon is a Hebrew name found only once in the Bible in Nehemiah 3:7 The letter "Y" was used before the letter "J" came into existence. The letter "J" later replaced the latter "Y" For centuries the letter "J" had the same pronunciation as the letter "Y" We see him in the 1870, and 1880 census in Illinois Children?? Date, and place of Death uncertain at this time. Harry Jordon Hitchcock Cemetery North Brant Lake Headstone reads Born 1812-1896 Records indicate that he may have been born in 1814 or even 1817 Harry was married to Mary Jordon (Maiden Name Unknown at this time) Born 1819-1907 Children Mary E. Jordon 1847-1924 Married Major Hill 1830-1896 Mary is buried in Darrowsville Cemetery in Chestertown Note: Harry most likely started out as a nickname for Henry, English speaking people often have a hard time understanding French speaking people. However this name Harry seems to be used has his real name. http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/ meaning_of_Harry.html?cid=YSSP Catharine Jordan Not sure which one is Cathrine. One is most likely a sister because they look allot alike Catharine Jordan Born in Fairfield, Vermont in 1826 She died in Ticonderoga, New York on November 5th 1901 She was Married to Godfrey Barnum from Canada. They met in Ticonderoga, New York after moving from Fairfield, Vermont. In 1850 they had three kids named Mary 5 years old, Julia 3 years old, Godfrey 1 year old, They lived in Hague in the 1850 Census. She is buried at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ticonderoga, New York. Her husband, and kids are buried at Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga, New York. Cathrine's Obituary Clip taken from the online Ticonderoga Sentinel. David Jordon 1829 or 1831 Died at Waterford, New York June 22nd 1905 Married Amelia (maiden name unknown at this time) Mrs. David Jordon died in Waterford, New York in 1898 Eliza Jordan Birth 1818 in St. Albans, Vermont Death October 18 1891 in Hague, Warren County. 73 years old Buried in Chilson Community Cemetery, Ticonderoga, New York Essex County. Eliza Married Oliver Garfield Died February 19 1887 76 years old. Eliza's Obituary Children Elizabeth Garfield Henry Garfield John Garfield Mary Jordan
(Child unknown at the time) Moses left, and Mary Right On 6-15-11 my wife & I visited our local Ticonderoga town hall to see if we could obtain more info on Mary's death certificate. Much to our surprise it's riddled with errors. For one thing it said she was single, her headstone proves she was still married to Moses Wells, and her obituary proves this also. The second thing is, it states her maiden name was Jordon, but had has her parents are listed as Anthony & Elizabeth Jarvis. Which is clearly Anthony & Eliza Jordon! Because no where in any records from NY, VT, to Canada do we see a Anthony Jarvis nor do we see a Eliza Jarvis, and certainly no couple with that name. Furthermore her maiden name proves that her parents surnames were indeed Jordon Her death certificate, and should have read Anthony & Elizabeth Jordon. Mary Jordon born 1817-1896 Mary Jordon Married Moses Gervais (Wells) dit Rivard who was born February 20 1814 in St-Pierre Sorel, Quebec Canada. He was naturalized in 1827 Both Mary & Moses are buried on the Vineyard Cemetery, its an old Catholic cemetery. It is believed that those who are buried there were not baptized. After much study I came to the conclusion that they were all baptized, just not in America which means they had no witnesses to prove that they were. As all that are buried there seems to be of Catholic faith, and came from other Countries. This is where we believe Anthony is buried, and possibly his wife Louise aka Eliza Mary's Obituary Sarah Jordan (Cryier)
Josiah Jordan Born about 1826 Right now this is all we have on Josiah: Josiah Jordan....24.... Male....White....Farmer....Born in New York in 1826 Philansa Jordan....22 yrs old....Female....White....Born in New York in 1828 Henriette Jordan....2 years old....Female....White....New York in 1848 This is taken from the 1850 census records. There are no records of any Jordon's in the area of Hague, NY or Ticonderoga, NY in 1826 which stands to reason he was probably Anthony Sr. son, and he hasn't shown up any any records before this period or since...as of yes anyway. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nywarren/census/1850/hague/page1.htm NOTE: It would seem very likely that Anthony would have more kids given the duration between Birth years of his known children, It seems likely that Anthony may have had more girls who got Married, and the names lost in time. This makes it extremely difficult to find them because of last name change. This era is before good record keeping began. This compacts the problem of finding more details, and other relatives. |

Eanas Jordon 1841-? (Possible Child of Enos) maybe even Anthony Jr Jordan from Schroon Lake In the 1850 Census we see him living with Anthony Jordan from Ticonderoga at the age of 9 years old. Note: We don't know anything else about this child. We are not even sure if this is Enos's son. He might even be Anthony's son which is doubtful giving Eliza is passed the age of child bearing by this point of time. |
